One of my mates held a birthday party and I was lucky enough to get invited. The especially nice thing about this was that the guy lived in London and was kind enough to accommodate me and a couple of other blokes at his flat. While preparing for the trip I went through the event listings of the big night clubs in London such as Herbal, Mass, Fabric, Matter etc. At first I got quite excited when noticing that there would be a FWD party at Matter and was already quite pleased about the date my mate had selected for the party. Luckily I was patient enough to check the other venues as well, and noticed that an event at Fabric quite much crushed all the other options at least in my amount-of-interest-scale. The event was called “Playaz Bank Holiday Special” and boy did it have a nice line up! A nice selection of some of the biggest names in the scene such as Andy C, Hazard, Ed Rush, SpectraSoul etc. etc. were on the list. Went to fabric’s site in a flash, booked a ticket from there and a few moments later had a nice e-ticket in my gmail.
Concussion show – April 12
I just listened the last show for making the tracklist. Damn! I like it – a lot. So I decided to blog about it but time is running short. So that’s why here’s just a “Concussion picture” from last friday, the great show what I was about to blog about and the tracklist of the show…
Concussion show Mon Apr 12 2010 @ NuBreaks.com
tracklist:
Concussion show tonight!
BoH!
Spinni’s Splendid! BASS was a incredible rockin’ party last saturday. elysion played such an amazing set that there is just one word to describe it:
CONCUSSION!
But today is a “Concussion-monday” so it’s time to leave the last weekend dusts behind, clean up your ears and tune in to nubreaks.com when clock hits 19 ( 7 pm GMT) because then we are dropping once again the mighty Concussion show! Tonight’s gonna be ruff and tuff but also chill and deep. elysion said that he’s gonna go with some chiller dubstep and deeper jungle than usually. I in other hand…. well lets see
.
I saw boys from Vesicle on saturday and they dropped me some new banging tunes! I also promised in the last show to play some new Skream as well as some other dubstep treats with amen drums etc. this time.
Concussion here, Concussion there
On the same night when elysion is playing in Finland at “Splendid! Bass” (see previous post for details), there is also some really heavy dubstep action in Hong Kong.

Kongkretebass Presents: Kryptic Minds (Osiris Music UK, Swamp81, Tectonic / UK) ‘One Of Us’ Album Tour @ Backstage, HK – Sat, 10.04.2010
It is really an honour to play alongside Kryptic Minds, their tunes have been on serious rotation for me since they started producing dubstep. Local dubheads are pumped up and extra bassbins have been rented to Backstage so everything should be ready for this gig. Advance tickets are available until 9th of April through this procedure:
1) E-mail YOUR FULL NAME + MOBILE NUMBER and the subject line ‘KRYPTIC MINDS’ before 9th April to: info [at] kongkretebass.com
2) On the 10th April, please mention ‘Advance Tickets’ on the door, and if your details are on the list you will get entry for HK$120 (includes 1 drink). Your details will be recorded for this event only.
More info: Kongkretebass
Splendid Drums!
Unfortunately I had to cancel my gig at Spinni’s Splendid BASS! party because of my grandmothers funeral. So here’s a mixtape which contains some of the tunes I was planning to spin… So maybe you could call this a teasermix for the upcoming party ![]()
But anyway with or without me Waisted Flanders, Takomo and of course elysion “The Grandmaster Concussionist” gonna rock the place and give you a proper bassmassage. The party is going to be huuuuge!
Check out the party on April 10 @ Laterna, Tampere
And something about the mix:
Reggae vibes in Hong Kong
This goes a bit off of the ordinary Concussion music styles, but there is one particular event here in HK that I’ve really been waiting for:

Hidden Dragon presents Mungo’s Hi Fi – Sound System Champions – and Shanghai’s Uprooted Sunshine, in Hong Kong at Backstage Live, 27th March 2010.
Scotland’s Mungo’s Hi Fi came into being in 2000, with a desire to hear decent music in their own city of Glasgow and the serendipitous occasion of finding some speakers in a skip. Since then Mungo’s Hi Fi have become one of the most progressive forces in international reggae and dubstep, unleashing a myriad of highly sought-after releases on their Scotch Bonnet & Scrub a Dub labels, while playing over 1000 sell-out gigs throughout the UK and Europe in the last 8 years alone – fast becoming the most in-demand sound system in Europe.
Concussion Tech Tips pt. 1
As a DJ you quite often ask yourself the question: “How on earth can I keep up with all the new releases?”. There are so many record stores and many of them have clumsy Flash players for listening to the sample clips. I mainly check the new releases from Beatport, Digital Tunes and Track It Down, which all utilize a Flash player, and as usual they are not that brilliant.
Fortunately the new Web 2.0 technologies provide a solution to all of the problems we didn’t even know about, even this one! The solution to the issue in hand: News feeds (RSS/Atom)! All of the stores listed above publish feeds from the releases that are available in the stores. By subscribing to these feeds with a feed reader e.g. Firefox, Opera (or Akregator if you’re on Linux as I am) you will be kept up to date with all of the new stuff that arrives to the stores!
Concussion Special Wrap Up
What a wicked show we had last Monday! Wispy’s set was just incredible and he was a joy to interview. As the interview part was in Finnish, we thought that we would make a fast (and quite sloppy
) translation of it for all the people who are following our shows, but who are not that fluent in Finnish.
Here are the show and the interview in audible form:
And here’s the translation:
Just Enjoy…
I’m not going to say anything. Just enjoy…
And if you like the sound more is comin’ at Splendid BASS!
I’m totally lovin’ these dubstep tunes with some amen drums and jungle vibes nowadays. <3
Reinforcements Arriving for Monday!
Next Mondays show is going to be a bit more spicier than usual. The Concussion Crew will be reinforced with one of the most successful youngsters in the Finnish dnb scene: Wispy.
Wispy, hailing from the Plauge collective, is probably a fairly familiar name to all the Finns who at least occasionally spend some time in the civilized world. He won the 33100 Drum & Bass competition in 2006, but did not settle just for that, as, in 2007, he was also victorious in the Laserpoint DJ competition. Since then he has kept himself busy organizing clubs such as Funkbusters and Steps at various venues in Tampere. Wispy’s sets usually consist of uplifting, groovy and jazzy elements, but he also tends to drop some a bit heavier tracks in his mixes.
This show is not one to miss, so make sure to tune in to NuBreaks (http://www.nubreaks.com/hifi.m3u) at 5PM GMT (19:00 Finnish time)!
And here is a picture of our guest munching on a disco ball (nomnomnom):
